Jiribam police re-arrest ex-OC Ibotombi

Jiribam police on Friday re-arrested former officer in-charge (now retired) of Jiribam police station, Sagapam Ibotombi in connection with a case registered by the PS .
Heingang police had arrested Ibotombi, RK Bhaskar and Chingtham Birjit for opening fire and threatening Meira Paibi activists on March 4 night.
On Friday, a team of Heingang PS produced the trio at the court of CJM Imphal East with a prayer for judicial remand.
The counsels of accused persons submitted a remand objection and prayed for release of the trio on bail.
During the hearing on Friday, Jiribam PS approached for formal arrest of Sagapam Ibotombi on the charges of cheating and misusing of government funds as a government employee.
The prayer stated that during his time as the OC of the PS, he failed to deposit Rs 14,73,800 of ILP funds to the Treasury.
Meanwhile, with regard to the case registered by Heingang PS, two empty magazines were recovered during an investigation.
After listening to the submissions of the counsels of RK Bhaskar and Chingtham Birjit, the court noted that the duo was found not involved in the incident as per the police investigation.
Accordingly, the court retracted the remand for the two accused and released them on bail on execution of a bail bond of Rs 50,000 and surety bond each.
It further ordered that the two should not engage in any illegal activity while out on bail, barred both from leaving the state without the court's permission and to report to the IO of the case as and when necessary.
On the other hand, the court took the remand objection of accused Ibotombi as regular bail and remanded him to judicial custody for 15 days.
Although his counsel objected to the prayer for formal arrest, the court approved the formal arrest to facilitate Jiribam PS properly investigate the case listed.
