Imphal, June 02 2025:
Residents along the India-Myanmar international border have expressed concern over the possible washing away of Border Pillar No 79 due to continuous riverbank erosion and have urged the state government to take immediate preventive measures.
According to local residents, the river that flows toward Nampalong Leikai from the confluence of Lairok and Khujairok Rivers has been eroding the banks severely every year during the monsoon, season due to heavy water flow.
As a result, the border pillar now stands precariously close to the riverbank, raising fears of it being swept away if urgent steps are not taken.
The villagers have appealed to the government to construct a proper retaining wall along the vulnerable section of the riverbank to safeguard the international boundary marker and prevent further erosion.
They stressed the need for early intervention to avoid any potential complications and to protect the nearby habitation from further damage.
