Imphal, March 25 2025:
A complex surgery for a 50-year-old patient with Locally Advanced Complicated Tongue Cancer (Carcinoma of the Tongue) was successfully conducted at Little Clinic, Nagaram, here, on Tuesday.
Little Clinic, a partner clinic of Karkinos Healthcare, JNIMS Camps, has been actively involved in providing advanced cancer treatment.
The surgery, which lasted for around 6 hours, was led by head and neck surgeon Dr Moni Abraham Kuriakose, who is also the medical director of Karkinos Healthcare, along with two doctors from Little Clinic.
The patient's condition was severe, with around 70 per cent of the tongue, including the base, affected by cancer.
The team performed a Subtotal Glossectomy with Compartmental Resection and Bilateral Neck Dissection to remove the affected portions of the tongue, adjacent tissues, and tissues on both sides of the neck that had been invaded by the cancer.
The removed tissues were reconstructed using the Pectoralis Major Myocutaneous (PMMC) flap, where healthy muscles from the chest were used for tissue replacement.
The surgery was successfully completed, and the patient is currently under observation.
Little Clinic has so far conducted surgeries on over 120 cancer patients as part of its collaboration with Karkinos Healthcare.
