Displaced medical students protest at CMC

CCpur, July 08 2023: Over 150 students, who had been pursuing medical studies at JNIMS, RIMS and Shija, staged protest demonstration at the campus of Churachan-dpur Medical College (CMC) around 11.30 am Saturday.

Organised by Joint Stu-dents' Body (JSB), the protest was participated by womenfolk of Chura-chandpur and the students' mothers as well.

According to the medical students, they have been stranded at the campus since May 3 when the vio-lence started as they are be-ing hunted with the purpose of killing and annihilating them.

The issue at present, however, is that no alterna-tive arrangement has been made for the students in any other college in the north-east or mainland India, to join/resume their classes.

While the other stu-dents in valley areas have already started their classes for more than a month and even the semester examina-tions have been conducted, the students at the Medical College have either not been given any information or arrangements including op-tions to join their classes, be it other states .

Thus, the students' future are in jeopardy and they are left confused on what step to take.

Apart from these, they feel that their hard-earned seats in the respective medical college have been lost.

They feel that the communal chief minister has sidelined them, and for that matter, reluc-tant to make any options available for continuation of their classes.

The students then said that as they are from the Kuki-Zo community, they have failed to draw the au-thorities' attention and as such, appealed to the au-thorities concerned to ini-tiate steps for continuation of their classes.

Speaking on behalf of the students, a mother Niangli-an appealed to the central authorities to do the needful and relocate this students to their classes in any way possible.
