NEP objectives dissected on fifth anniversary

Oriental College (Autonomous), Takyel, Imphal, in collaboration with IGNOU Regional Centre, Imphal, and Seva Bharati, Manipur, organised a commemorative academic event on Tuesday to mark the 5th anniversary of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.Held at the college's conference hall, the programme focused on the theme "NEP 2020's Vision for Interdisciplinary Innovation and Cross-Sector Entrepreneurship".
The discourse participated by academicians, institutional heads, and community figures, was held with Manipur University Department of English and Cultural Studies head Prof Irom Gambhir Singh as the chief guest-cum-resource person.

Speaking on the topic "Indigenous Knowledge Systems in Alignment with NEP 2020", he underscored the significance of traditional ecological wisdom, community-led healthcare, oral traditions, craftsmanship, and conflict-resolution mechanisms within Manipur's diverse communities.
The professor also advocated for integrating such indigenous intellectual resources into the mainstream education system to foster culturally rooted and context-aware learners.
He further stressed the importance of interdisciplinary research that connects modern scientific understanding with the sustainable and intuitive practices of Manipur's tribal and hill communities.
Presiding over the function, college principal Dr S Ranjit Singh, reaffirmed the institution's commitment to aligning its academic pursuits with the progressive vision of NEP 2020 .
Dr Salam Dilan Singh, senior regional director of IGNOU Regional Centre, Imphal, attended as guest of honour and highlighted IGNOU's ongoing and future efforts to promote innovation, skill-based education, and entrepreneurial learning through interdisciplinary approaches.
Also addressing the gathering, Khwairakpam Rajen Singh, former state informatics officer and former state secretary of Seva Bharati, Manipur, called for the integration of entrepreneurial knowledge in the current higher education curriculum of the state.
