Imphal, December 24 2024:
Peace loving innocent Meetei people turned village volunteers to defend the motherland as security forces did not discharged their duties to counter threats posed by Kuki narco-terrorists since May 3, 2023, stated Indigenous People's Association of Kangleipak (IPAK) president Kshetrimayum Somorendro.
Addressing protestors at sit-in-protest against the killing and arrest of village volunteers (VVs) held at Langthabal Mantrikhong Awang Leikai community hall organised by IPAK with the support of Young Future Organisation under the aegis of COCOMI on Tuesday, Somorendro said village volunteers protecting innocent villagers from attacks by Kuki narco-terrorists in fringe areas left their homely comfort as security forces failed to live up to the people's expectation.
Village volunteers are all innocent peace loving people but compelled to take up arms due to inaction of security forces, he reiterated and warned that intense agitations would be launched if killing and arrest of village volunteers continues.
According to Somorendro, village volunteers are not war mongers and this must be acknowledged by the government and stop arresting them.
He also urged government to release all the arrested village volunteers without any condition.
Slogans like 'We condemn killing of village volunteers', 'Punish police commandos who killed village volunteers, 'Police commandos need not show courage to the Meeteis, show courage to Narco-Terror -ists', 'Release arrested village volunteer immediately' and 'Repeal AFSPA immediately' were chanted by the protestors during the protest.
