Imphal, March 20 2025:
DM College of Teacher Education Trainees' Union organised a protest at the college on Thursday, demanding revocation of the transfer order of six teachers of the college.
The Union reasoned that as the college is already understaffed, transferring teachers from the college is unacceptable.
The protestors blocked the internal road of the DM University campus in front of the college on Thursday.
Sports secretary of the union, Keithellakpam Prem told media persons that the college has a total sanctioned post of 32 teachers including the principal.
However, there are only 25 teaching staff in the college.
Amid such shortage, the higher and technical education commissioner issued a transfer order for six teachers on March 18.Another teacher was also transferred from the college about a month ago, said the secretary.
Recounting that there were instances of the college almost losing its recognition, he termed the transfer of teaching staff as an attempt to close down the college and demanded the authority concerned to revoke the transfer order.
Prem also drew attention of the student bodies of the state while stating that the Union had already submitted a memorandum in this regard to the Governor and the commissioner concerned on Wednesday.
