Imphal, July 15 2025:
Foothills Naga Coordination Committee (FNCC), Imphal, has announced an indefinite road blockade and general strike across the foothill region of Naga-inhabited areas starting from midnight of July 18, 2025, in protest against continued presence of illegal immigrants and Kuki refugees in Naga ancestral lands.
In a press statement issued Tuesday, FNCC said that the decision to launch the protest was taken in response to "serious concerns" that have remained unaddressed, including renaming of roads, territorial encroachment, and the presence of Suspension of Operations (SoO) camps of Kuki militant groups near Naga areas.
The Committee alleged that Kuki refugees had "unilaterally and mischievously" renamed an IVR (inter-village road) within Naga ancestral territory as "German road" or "Tiger road" .
It condemned the naming as "historically and culturally unfounded", asserting that such titles have no basis in Naga traditions, oral histories or official land records.
"These fabricated names have no legitimacy in our traditions, oral histories, or official land records.
Any attempt to impose such fictitious infrastructure naming within Naga territory will be viewed as an act of provocation and territorial aggression," FNCC stated.
The Committee further accused Kuki refugees of engaging in systematic encroachment upon traditional Naga lands, which it described as a direct threat to Naga territorial integrity and heritage.
It warned that such acts would not be tolerated and reiterated that the ancestral lands of Naga people were not to be infringed upon under any pretext.
Calling for urgent government intervention, FNCC demanded the immediate dismantling of all SoO camps operated by Kuki militant groups near Naga-inhabited areas.
It claimed that these camps "endanger peace and stability" and have become a "persistent source of fear and insecurity" for the Naga communities living nearby.
"We appeal to all Naga citizens to stand in solidarity and support this peaceful yet resolute protest aimed at protecting our rights, land and collective future, the statement added.
