Imphal, March 07 2025:
Lok Sabha MP Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam has asserted that any attempt to disintegrate Manipur along ethnic lines is akin to an attempt to disintegrate India.
He made the remark while visiting Ananda Singh Higher Secondary Academy, Nongmeibung, and Urban Primary Health Centre, Chingamathak, on Friday.
Speaking to the media during his visit, Dr Bimol strongly opposed demands for a separate administrative structure based on ethnic lines, stating that such an approach would never succeed.
He emphasised that separate administration would mean the disintegration of Manipur, which he likened to the disintegration of India.
He also warned that those advocating for separate administration should understand that it would only create further disagreements among themselves.
Commenting on the Centre's efforts to ensure free movement, Dr Bimol said that maintaining free movement is the responsibility of the state, and disruptions in this regard are a sign of a weak state.
He urged the government to use security and paramilitary forces to enforce free movement, welcoming the initiative as a crucial first step toward restoring peace and normalcy.
However, he maintained that true peace would only be achieved once Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) are fully resettled in their original homes.
Addressing the opposition to free movement put forth by various Kuki organisations, including the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), Dr Bimol informed that he had a serious discussion with the Governor on the matter during their meeting on Thursday.
He urged the Governor to take strict action against those obstructing free movement and to make it clear that a functioning government is in place.
He further stated that any grievances related to lack of development in certain areas should be addressed through peaceful discussions with the authorities.
Stressing the need for dialogue, he emphasised that bringing all stakeholders to the table is imperative for finding solutions and restoring peace and normalcy in Manipur.
