Imphal, February 07 2025:
Seeking clarity colleges which shall have four-year degree courses (7th & 8th semester) under the National Education Policy, 2020, Imphal College students on Friday staged protest in front of the college near Kwakeithel.
Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, Imphal College 5th semester student Janat Laishram pointed out that in-spite of NEP, 2020 already implemented in the state, authorities are yet to clarify which colleges will have the four-year degree courses (honours with research) as mandated under the NEP.
Asking the government to declare and identify within short notice colleges which will introduce the four-year degree courses and urged not to spoil the students' academic career.
Appealing for full implementation of the NEP, 2020 in the state, Janat also demanded resignation of education minister, commissioner and director if they could not implement it.
While asking the government to do the needful instead of waiting for the peeved students to launch protest, he also suggested that teachers who lack the commitment to guide the students should stay away from the noble profession.
Expressing concern that students are in dilemma whether to apply for CUET exam for post-graduation or which college to study for the four-year degree course, he reiterated the demand for clarity on the same.
He further cautioned of launching intense protest if the government does not issue clarification on the matter at the earliest.
