JNIMS, Dental College celebrate foundation day

JNIMS director professor L Deben has called upon the teaching and non- teaching staff of the medical institute to be united and contribute in making the institute one of the leading medical colleges in the country.
He was speaking as chief guest at the 16th foundation day of JNIMS and 7th foundation day of Dental College, JNIMS held at the auditorium of the institute on Monday.
Presenting the annual report of the institute, professor Deben said that the institute was granted recognition as a medical college in 2015 with 100 MBBS seats which ha s now increased to 150 .
Above this, there are also 20 seats for specialty, 90 for PG and 50 for BDS.
Earlier, it was run by JNIMS Society before the state government took over the management from December 1 this year.
At present, there are 699 MBBS, 293 BDS and 220 PG students.
JNIMS students emerge toppers in every examination conducted by the Manipur University.
So far, JNIMS has published 53 research papers and there are 23 ongoing researches while its faculties had attended in 31 CMEs and conferences.
The institute has a capacity of 748 beds and had provided free treatment to 14,889 patients under CMHT and 760 under PM-JAY schemes.
The institute has conducted 37 kidney transplants of which two kidneys were donated by terminally ill patients, he said.
The director commended the teaching and non-teaching staff of the institute for their contribution for such achievements.
He also assured to bring up the proposal for regularisation of services of contractual staff and promotion of assistant professor of the Dental College to associate professor as well as other key issues concerning the staff.
Dental College JNIMS principal professor Nidarsh D Hegde presided over the function while Dean (academics) professor T Rajen, MS Dr Kh Lokeshwar, organising committee chairman professor Thoibahenba, reception and souvenir committee chairman professor Guneshwar, DDA JNIMS Yaiphaba, and additional MS & head of paediatrics department professor Kameshwar attended as guests of honour.
Professor L Deben also released a souvenir of the institute and a magazine titled 'Nongin' on the occasion.
