AR pays tributes

Officers and personnel of Assam Rifles today paid floral tributes with full military decorum to the mortal remains to Sena Medal awardee Thounaojam Surjit Singh (Riflemen) who died yesterday at Kolkata following a prolonged illness.
Thounaojam Surjit of Lamdeng Mayai Leikai was enrolled in Kangchup based Assam Rifles battalion on August 28, 2004 for his bravery in country insurgency operations.
He was awarded the prestigious Sena Medal (Gallantry) on the occasion of Independence Day 2009 .
He was undergoing medical treatment for recurrent diffuse fibrillary astrocytoma from April 19, 2021 .
Surjit breathed his last breath at around 7 pm yesterday at Command Hospital, Kolkata.
The mortal remains of Thounaojam Surjit were brought back to Imphal airport today and taken to his native village, Lamdeng Mayai leikai in an Assam Rifles ambulance.
The last rites of Thounaojam Surjit were performed with full military decorum with Jwalamukhi and Kangchup based Assam Rifles battalions displaying the rich traditions of the Assam Rifles in honouring the warrior at his village Lamdeng, Imphal west, Manipur.
