Ukhrul, December 18 2023:
In a move to uplift the healthcare conditions of his constituents, Ukhrul MLA Ram Muivah distributed AB PM-JAY cards to as many as 70 beneficiaries during a distribution function held at DRDDA Hall, Mini Secretariat complex on Monday.
Speaking at the event, MLA Ram Muivah pointed out that the mega healthcare scheme introduced by the government is aimed at providing financial assistance to impoverished households for their medical treatment covering up to Rs 5 lakh to each eligible family per annum.
He shared his own experience of seeing poor families struggle with the financial burdens of getting proper medical treatment for their members.
He stated that he has extended whatever help he could to such families in the past.
"But with such a good scheme in place, why should poor people continue to struggle for their medical treatment," he said, advising all eligible individuals/households to get enrolled and avail the benefits.
The MLA also shared how he initiated a drive to make the inhabitants aware of the AB PM-JAY scheme and get them enrolled in it.
According to the NPF legislator, the drive has so far covered over 1000 families and individuals and out of this, the 70 beneficiaries who received their health cards during the distribution function were only from the district headquarters as first phase of distribution.
The remaining beneficiaries from interior villages will be provided with their health cards in the coming days, he informed.
Ram Muivah also noted that despite government's efforts to implement the AB PM-JAY as a flagship healthcare programme, a significant portion of the rural community in Manipur continued to face difficulties in accessing quality healthcare.
Many had remained excluded from the benefits of this scheme, he said.
The MLA highlighted the importance of the scheme in uplifting the healthcare conditions of individuals and families living in poverty.
The function was also attended by Ukhrul DC Zuringla Kengoo and ADC/ ADM Nimmi Khamrang, among others.
