Imphal, May 19 2025:
The Jal Jeevan Mission's functional household tap water connection exists only on paper and on the mission's website for Tamei subdivision.
On the ground, not a single household in the subdivision has functional tap water connection, alleged Tamei BlockCongress Committee.
The Jal Jeevan Mission was launched in 2019 with the objective of providing safe and adequate drinking water through individual household tap connections to all households in rural India by 2024.In the Jal Jeevan Mission's dashboard on its website, it is shown that almost all households in all the villages of Tamei subdivision have been provided with tap water connection.
Some villages even have hundred percent tap connections.
However, in reality, not a single household in all the villages of Tamei subdivision has tap water connection, alleged Tamei Block Congress Committee in a statement issued by its president, W Dindabou.
"...it is unfortunate to learn that most of the villages in Tamei subdivision don't have water tanks and all the villages don't have pipelines.
It is also surprising to learn that not a single household in all the villages is provided with tap connection," the Tamei Block Congress Committee alleged.
Interestingly, the Jal Jeevan Mission's dashboard says, out of 5,639 households in Tamei subdivision, 4,495 (79.71 %) have tap water connections.
Since the launch of the mission, tap water connection has been provided to 4,376 (79.28%) households in the subdivision, says the Mission's dashboard.
119 households had tap water connection prior to the launch of the mission.
The mission's website says there is 100 percent household tap water connection in 7 villages of Tamei subdivision.
Data provided by the Tamei Block Congress Committee shows that Tamei has a total of 465 households, and 461 have tap water connections - indicating 99.14 percent of the households have access to tap water.
However, in reality, not a single household in Tamei has been provided with tap water connection under the Jal Jeevan Mission, alleged the committee.
On the mission's website, almost all the households in all the villages of Tamei subdivision have tap water connection.
In reality, all the villages are struggling to have access to safe and adequate drinking water, said the committee, asserting that data on the mission regarding Tamei subdivision may have been manipulated.
"There is a massive scam happening in the name of JJM, robbing the people of their basic needs like water.
The JJM fund seems to be misappropriated and embezzled by the contractors or the authorities or the department concerned," alleged the committee.
It urged the Government and authorities concerned to immediately launch a thorough investigation/inquiry into the alleged scam to identify the real culprits.
Those responsible should be punished as per the law, said the committee.
