MUC students representing India at world folk festival

Manipur University of Culture vice-chancellor professor Paonam Gunindro Singh, on Monday said that students of the university are representing India on the global stage and showcasing the rich art and culture of Manipur.
He described it as a matter of pride not only for the university but for the entire state.
Prof Gunindro made the remarks during an event where final semester students of BA and MA Theatre presented their major theatre production, "Nongban Soura", at the Manipur Dramatic Union auditorium, Yaiskul Police Lane, Imphal.
Registrar Laishram Radhakanta presided over the function, while examination coordinator Laimayum Devendrajit attended as guest of honour.
Addressing the event as chief guest, the VC said that a cultural troupe of students from the university is currently participating in the "10th International Folk Dance Festival" in Hungary, representing India.
He said that the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) selected the Manipur University of Culture for the festival, which will run from August 16 to 21 .
He said that there are 1,160 universities under AIU, and the Manipur University of Culture earned the honour following its consistent achievements at the National Youth Festival, where it has secured the overall team championship titles for three consecutive years.
He added that the university's students have also won top honours in several art forms, especially folk dance, which led to their selection for the global festival.
Prof Gunindro also said that it is commendable that despite limited infrastructure compared to other universities, the MUC has reached such a significant milestone, He reiterated that the achievement is not only for the university but also for the people of Manipur.
The event concluded with the performance of "Nongban Soura", staged by BA 6th semester and MA 4th semester students of the Theatre Department as part of their examination.
Teachers, students, as well as theatre personalities, who are the assessors of the production as part of the academic evaluation, attended the programme.
