Senapati DA reaches out to flood-hit denizens

Senapati, June 02 2025:
Since May 30 midnight, Senapati district, particularly residential pockets within the district headquarters, has been reeling under the impact of one of the most devastating floods.
Prior to occurrence of the flooding and in line with the Red Alert warning of inclement weather forecast by the India Meteorological Department, the district administration issued notices for taking preventive actions and made public announcements using loudspeakers warning residents' near the rivers to remain alert and take precautionary action for speedy evacuation in case of flood.
The district administration took up immediate evacuation of residents from high-risk areas as soon as the water level began to rise dangerously.

A total of 324 residents were evacuated out of which 84 persons have been accommodated at the temporary shelter facilities opened at the Skill Centre, District Council while others have taken shelter at houses of their friends and relatives.
Another 80 persons took shelter at the Khabung Karong community hall temporary shelter on June 1.Cooked meals with clean drinking water, mattresses, bed-sheets, light blankets, mosquito nets/repellents, sanitary pads, clothing for children and water tanks have been provided at the Temporary Shelter opened by the district administration.
Immediate relief items such as rice, dal, oil, eggs, vegetables, packaged drinking water and in some areas bleaching powder have been distributed to a total of 1322 households so far.
Immediate relief work of dredging and removal of silt at inundated public areas have started and will be continued.
Medical camps have been organised at relief camp and medical teams will be visiting all the affected areas.
The district has been facing power outage and power restoration work is under progress.
Mobile network has also been affected adversely.
Landslide at multiple location have caused damages to PMGSY, PWD and Inter-Village Roads.
Debris clearance works in the affected areas are underway.
Multiples landslide have occurred on NH-2, NH-102A and NH-129A .
The NH-2 has been cleared for vehicular movement though landslides have been reported along the NH102A at multiple locations.
On the NH 129 A (Maram-Peren Road), 100 metres Of the said road stretch have been Washed away on June 1 in between Willong and Sangkhumei villages.
NHIDCL is taking up restoration works and has reported that traffic resumption will take a minimum of 3-4 days.
Several wooden bridges/hanging bridges connecting villages to paddy fields have been swept away.
One iron bailey bridge near Keize village under Pu-rul Sub-Division has been damaged.
In the effort to tide over the devastation caused by the flood, the district administration acknowledged and solicited unwavering support from various organisations especially the apex CSOs of the district, NHIDCL, CRPF, PSUs, IGGL and the Indian Red Cross Society Senapati.
