Bishnupur, November 30 2024:
A public meeting organised jointly by Apunba Nachou United Clubs' Organisation and Nachou Youth Defence Force with the presence of civil society members and Nachou area villagers at local community hall demanded unconditional release of the six Nachou residents, who were arrested for their alleged involvement in the November 16 protest and subsequent act of arson.
Speaking to media persons, All Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL) president Lourembam Nganbi informed that apart from the demand for release of the six persons, the meeting resolved that the government authorities withdraw the summon served to other protesters, the state government should resolve the on-going conflict within short notice, and the government of India halt its alleged proxy war it is waging in Manipur.
The meeting also criticised remarks of Kuki MLA Paolienlal Haokip that the recent abduction and killing of six children and women in Jiribam was to avenge the death of a Hmar woman and demanded that the government initiate legal punitive action against the legislator.
Moreover, the meeting demanded that all the mei-ra paibi activists and youths arrested during the course of the public movement should be freed without any condition.
L Nganbi further emphasised that the resolutions passed in today's meeting will be submitted to the government and if no positive response comes from the government side by December 2 then they will launch mass court arrest agitation.
