Meet pleas to stop communalising Lilong incident

A joint meeting of different CSOs held at Lilong Keithel on Tuesday has appealed to the people of the state not to upload/share uncorroborated posts on social media about the Lilong incident and refrain from adding communal tone to the issue.
The meeting was attended by leaders and representatives of CSOs including Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS), United Meitei Pangal Committee (UMPC), Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation (MMWO), JCILPS, TAKDAL, Thoubal Apunba Lup, and Council for Restoration of Communal Harmony, among others.
Addressing the media after the meeting, UMPC advisor Islam Makakcha appealed to all concerned to desist from sharing posts related with the Lilong incident without verifying the truth.
It was unfortunate that lives of four people were lost and 14 left injured in the incident.
However, the truth behind the incident is still unravelling, he said, While urging all to exercise restraint and support the JAC.
He also appealed to all concerned not to communalise the issue.
Joining the media briefing, FOCS president Th Manihar said that the Lilong incident was an unfortunate incident and called for a united stand to prevent similar incidents in future.
Noting that there were some initial posts on social media apparently trying to portray the incident as an issue between the two communities, he appreciated people of Lilong exer cising restraint, consequently averting the incident from taking a communal angle, while urging the public to refrain from sharing such unverified posts on social media.
He also appreciated the swift response from the chief minister, who assured justice while appealing for calm, and expressed confidence that the CM will definitely understand the sentiments of the public and consider the demands raised by the JAC.
He also appealed to the government to lift the curfew imposed.
