Bodies call for arrest of rumour mongers

Meitei and Meitei-Pangal organisations have urged the State Government to take appropriate action against rumour mongers responsible for spreading false information and creating tension between communities in connection with the incident at Lilong yesterday.
This was stated during a press conference held at Citizens' Club located at Soibam Leikai Wangkhei Khunou today.
Addressing the media, Haji Arafat, advisor, Meitei Pangal Council Manipur urged the Government to arrest the rumour mongers while cautioning that inaction might lead to an uptick in such dangerous activities that can have huge ramifications in the future.
He also appealed people to avoid making statements that may hurt the sentiments of other communities and appealed against the repetition of any unfortunate incidents in the areas under the jurisdiction of Wangkhem Kendra Peace Committee Manipur.
In addition, he stressed on the "bonds of blood" between Meitei and Meitei Pangal community and added that both have to live side by side in peace.
RK Gokulchandra, chairman, Wangkhem Kendra Peace Committee Manipur shared that the Committee had initiated a dialogue with Meitei Pangal organisations to maintain peace and calm in the face of the tragic incident.
The meeting continued today as well.
They jointly resolved to co-exist peacefully without harming minority interests.
