Imphal, January 02 2024:
The state government has constituted a committee for the rationalisation and re-organisation of police Jurisdiction in alignment with revenue administration principles.
According to an order issued in this regard by commissioner (home) T Ranjit on December 31, IGP (Admn) K Jayanta will be the chairman of the committee while IGP (AP/Ops) Dr IK Muivah, joint secretary (home) Dr Mayengbam Veto and OSD (land resources) Y Rajen are the members.
The committee shall submit its recommendations within 15 days to the home department through the DGP.
This initiative has been undertaken pursuant to a cabinet decision, the order said.
Meanwhile, Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) said the committee formed by the government as per an order issued on December 31, 2023 is devoid of any Kuki-Zo representation.
Strongly censuring constitution of a four-member committee for re-organisation of police jurisdiction, KIM also appealed to the Governor to review the pressing issue and to reconstitute a committee which is fairly represented and to re-organise the police jurisdiction in line with the demands of the KIM to prevent further misuse of power and authority of the state government against Kuki-Zo people.
Reorganisation of police jurisdiction is a pressing need for the safety and security of the people and their land especially of the Kuki-Zo people but the absence of Kuki-Zo representative is beyond excusable considering the fact that most of the areas having jurisdictional contestation belong to the Kuki-Zo community, KIM said in a statement issued by its information and publicity department.
Such actions only testify the malignant nature of the state government against the Kuki-Zo people, it claimed.
Accusing the state government of continuing anti-tribal policies, KIM said it was appalled to learn that a tribal officer IK Muivah (IPS, RR: 2000 batch) has been appointed only as a member of the said committee despite the fact that he is senior to K Jayanta Singh (IPS, SPS: 2002 batch), who has been made the chairman of the committee by virtue of being a Meetei.
It also said that the direction to sub mit the recommendation of the committee to the home department being headed by chief minister N Biren Singh is discriminatory and aggravating.
