RIMS director stresses on regular blood donation

Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal director Professor G Sunil Kumar Sharma has stated that the number of voluntary blood donors is low in the state and emphasised the need to raise awareness on the importance of regular blood donation to improve the figures.
The observance of World Blood Donor Day 2025 also featured a voluntary blood donation camp and a felicitation ceremony organised by the Department of Transfusion Medicine in collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society Bishnupur District Branch, People's Resource Development Association (PRDA) Bishnupur, Chhayatap Foundation, and Green Brigade Foundation Manipur, Toubul, at the OPD Complex on Saturday.
The RIMS director asserted that blood donation is safe and life-saving.

"We must dispel myths and encourage a culture of voluntary donation among faculty, staff, and students.
By donating blood, we give hope and save lives together," he said.
Informing that RIMS Department of Transfusion Medicine is highly equipped and has a large storage facility for blood; Prof Sunil Kumar appealed to the public to donate blood at the hospital without any fear.
He also criticised the rackets of illegal blood selling while assuring that RIMS has taken strict measures against it.
During the event, held under the theme 'Give Blood, Give Hope: Together We Save Lives', Professor G Sunil and medical superintendent Professor N Sanjib Singh led by example by donating blood during the camp.
A total of 75 donors contributed blood during the observance.
Regular voluntary donors were also felicitated for their consistent contributions.
Participants took a pledge to promote blood donation and uphold the values of compassion and unity in healthcare.
The programme was also attended by Dean (Academics) Professor L Rajesh Singh, Department of Transfusion Medicine head Dr Pratima Khoyumthem, exhead Professor A Barindra Sharma, principals of the Dental and Nursing Colleges, heads of departments, faculty, nursing officers, staff, and voluntary donors.
Meanwhile, World Blood Donor Day 2025 was also observed at JNIMS Hospital on Saturday.
