COCOMI, AMUCO, FOCS delegation meets Governor

Few hours after their return from New Delhi, the 19-member delegation of COCOMI, AMUCO and FOCS representing the people of Manipur, which met officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) at the national capital on June 30, held a meeting with top state government officials at Raj Bhavan on Wednesday evening.
The meeting chaired by Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla was also attended by chief secretary, DGP, security advisor and secretary (home) with the officials reportedly assuring that steps have been initiated to implement different points raised by COCOMI-AMUCO-FOCS delegation during the meeting with MHA officials in New Delhi.
After the meeting, COCOMI convener Khuraijam Athouba told media persons at Manipur Press Club that their meeting with MHA officials on June 30 lasted for more than three and half hours and raised key issues concerning the people of Manipur.
First and foremost point raised at the meeting was that territorial integrity of Manipur should not be compromised in any manner in pursuance of resolving the crisis.
The firm stand of COCOMI, AMUCO and FOCS in this matter was made known to the MHA officials, he said.
Other issues raised during the meeting were return of the displaced persons to their respective homes, restoration of free movement, detection of illegal immigrants and problems faced by farmers, Athouba said, observing that positive outcomes of the New Delhi meet were reflected by the state officials in Wednesday's meeting at Raj Bhavan.
The meeting chaired by Governor AK Bhalla was a follow-up to the June 30 meet with MHA officials and state officials gave several assurances including return of displaced persons to their respective homes in phased manner beginning from the month of July, Athouba said adding state officials informed the delegation about impossibility of returning all the displaced persons at once.
On the Gwaltabi incident, state officials informed the delegation that enquiry report is already in the government's hand and even assured that a clear decision based on the report will be intimated to the people within two weeks.
In view of recent incidents of farmers coming under attacks, 1,000 MR and IRB personnel have been deployed in vulnerable areas with security forces who failed to act and protect the farmers have been replaced and investigation underway against them.
The officials also informed the delegation that five security personnel present when the Phubala firing incident happened have been suspended and search operations are continuing in suspected hill areas to prevent such incidents.
State officials also assured the delegation that necessary relief measures from the government for family of farmer injured in the Phubala incident will be implemented within this week, Athouba said.
According to Athouba, state government officials informed the delegation during the meeting that biometric data for 13,945 illegal immigrants have been collected this year with 13,917 deported.
State government officials also informed that process is underway for restoring free movement within this month along with confiding that the number of displaced persons have reduced from 62,000 to 57,000 after around 5,000 of them were resettled.
