CRPF brings solar power, skill training to remote Noney villages

As part of its ongoing civic outreach initiatives, the 143 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) organised Civic Action Programmes in two remote villages of Noney district on Monday, aiming to improve basic infrastructure and promote socio-economic development among underprivileged communities.
Under the aegis of the M&N Sector, the programme was conducted at Rengpang village and Awangkhul village on December 29, 2025.In Rengpang village, the CRPF installed a 2 KV solar inverter system complete with solar panels, inverter and battery backup at the local church.
The facility is expected to benefit around 20 households comprising nearly 60 residents by ensuring reliable access to electricity and supporting community welfare.
The programme at Rengpang was led by Omnath Chattaraj, Second-in-Command (2-VC), 143 Bn CRPF, along with M Pamei, A/C; Inspector/ GD Dheeraj Kumar and Meisuangbi Gangmei, chairman of Rengpang village.
Civil representatives, including Kachakbi Ruangmei (Church Security) and Gaihaklunh (Pastor), along with other village elders and residents, were present on the occasion.
In a similar initiative at Awangkhul village, the 143 Bn CRPF installed another 2 KV solar inverter system at the Luangchum Awangkhul Youth Office.
In addition, a bamboo handicraft training programme was organised for local youths, aimed at generating livelihood opportunities, especially for unemployed youth and economically weaker sections.
The training programme was inaugurated by Omnath Chattaraj, 2-I/C, 143 Bn CRPF .
The event at Awangkhul was attended by Vinod Kumar, Assistant Commandant; Major Piyush Kumar of the 6th Assam Rifles; village chief Poupangai Kamei; secretary Sagongam Kamsuan; secretary (customary record) Ninganlung Kamsuan, customary court chairman Pouchomgai Gonmei, and other prominent villagers.
The solar installation at Awangkhul is also expected to benefit around 20 households, covering approximately 60 residents.
Addressing the gatherings, Omnath Chattaraj stated that die CRPF regularly undertakes such Civic Action Programmes alongside its primary responsibility of maintaining law and order and internal security.
He emphasised that the main objective of these initiatives is to strengthen coordination with civil society and contribute to the progress and upliftment of villagers in remote and underserved areas.
The twin programmes were widely appreciated by the local communities, who hailed the CRPF's efforts as a meaningful step towards sustainable development and improved quality of life in the region.
