First Naga Journalists' Conclave revives union

In a historic first, the Ukhrul District Working Journalists' Association (UDWJA) organised a three-day Naga Journalists' Conclave from March 17 at Magen Hills, Viewland, here.
The Conclave revived the defunct union, 'Syndication of Naga Journalists', which was established by veteran Naga journalists in 2003 .
The attending members unanimously decided to rechristen the organisation as the 'Naga Journalists' Union Manipur' (NJUM) under the motto 'Connecting Voices', aiming to consolidate the solidarity of Naga journalists in Manipur.

As per a release by conclave secretary Ashin Shaiza, the Conclave was attended by delegates from five Naga districts - Chandel, Noney, Tamenglong, Senapati, and Ukhrul.
United Naga Council (UNC) general secretary Vareiyo Shatsang attended the event as a proponent, while Newmai News Network (NNN), chief editor Witoubou Newmai and senior journalist Sothing Hunphun Awungshi were the panellists.
During the discussion sessions, Witoubou Newmai spoke on the topic 'Bridging the gap', while Sothing Shimray discussed 'The Way Forward', followed by deliberations on different issues and challenges related to the working conditions of journalists in the Naga hill districts, resulting in the adoption of a series of resolutions.
Along with resolving to revive the 'Syndication of Naga Journalists' and rechristen it as NJUM, the gathering also agreed to constitute an 'Interim Body' headed by the president, general secretary, vice presidents, executive members and drafting committee.
The executives who were nominated to head the interim body included Pr Tennoson as president and Vangamla Salle KS as general secretary, while Witoubou Newmai, Sothing Hunphun Awungshi and Ngathingkhui Jagoi were made drafting committee members.
The tenure of the interim body will continue until the election date, which was tentatively fixed on February 14, 2026, it further informed.
