Imphal, August 11 2025:
Imagi Meira urged the President's Rule government to maintain neutrality if it truly seeks to restore peace and tranquillity in the state, stating that roads should be constructed for all communities, not solely for the Kukis, as the national highways serve as the lifeline for everyone.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, on Monday, Imagi Meira president Thokchom Sujata termed as very unfortunate that, following the submission of a memorandum by Kuki Inpi to the President of India urging construction and repair of the German/Tiger Road, which connects Churachandpur and Kangpokpi and is undeniably a road of the Kukis, the DONER Ministry has instructed the state's chief secretary to look into the matter.
Urging the PR government to stop this initiative, she also expressed disappointment over the silence of the state's MLAs, whether in the ruling or the opposition, at a time when the people are enduring immense hardships.
She stressed that the MLAs must fulfil their duties effectively for the welfare of the state, as they have been elected as the people's representatives.
Sujata further remarked that the central government's handling of the state's two-year-long crisis has been unsatisfactory, alleging that it has long ignored the Meeteis' demand to safeguard the state's territorial integrity while taking the issues raised by the Kukis seriously and acting on them.
Such actions, she said, have led people to believe that the Government of India is siding with the Kukis.
She added that if the government truly wishes to restore peace in the state, it must act neutrally, taking into account that the Meeteis have never opposed any peace initiatives in Manipur and had even warmly welcomed the 16-member delegation of the Thadou Inpi in Imphal.
In light of these considerations, she urged the government of India to act accordingly, warning that giving priority only to the Kukis' demands could ultimately lead to disaster.
