Kakching, May 06 2025:
Kakching district administration in association with Kakching District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) launched "Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat" (Child marriage-free nation) awareness campaign for Kakching district on Tuesday.
The campaign was launched by Kakching additional district magistrate (ADM) P Shantikumar at NIC Conference Hall, DC complex, here.
Speaking on the occasion, Shantikumar acknowledged that preventing child marriage has been a challenge due to a lack of proper understanding among the public about laws enacted to prevent such unlawful practices.
He emphasised on the importance of raising awareness on child rights and the collective responsibility of society in safeguarding children from early and forced marriages.
Stressing on the importance of understanding why child marriage is prohibited, he urged everyone to accept that laws are implemented for the welfare of the people and appealed to all to act in accordance to law of the land.
As a resource person of the launch programme, DCPU, Kakching legal-cum-probation officer M Robindro spoke on the topic "The Prohibition of Child Marriage Act 2006", under which marriages involving girls under 18 and boys under 21 years of age are strictly prohibited along with severe penalties for violators.
The programme was also attended by DCPU, Kakching child protection officer Gajoo Rajkumari, and child marriage prohibition officers (CMPOs) of Kakching district among others.
Posters were also distributed as a part of the launch programme.
