KZC shelves mega public meet as UKNA opposes

CCpur, July 18 2025: While the Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) postponed its mega public consultative meeting scheduled for conduct on July 19 at Tuibong peace ground until further notice, the United Kuki National Army (UKNA) declared its opposition to the meet on 'Cessation of hostilities/ceasefire and other related issues' .

Announcing postponement of the consultative meet, a KZC statement said the decision to keep the meeting in abeyance was taken in view of unhealthy atmosphere currently prevailing, which is not conducive for holding such a significant public gathering.

Expressing deep regret over inconveniences caused due to the postponement, the KZC extended its heartfelt gratitude to philanthropic organisations, volunteers and individuals who supported construction of the hall and preparations for the meeting.

On the other hand, the non-SoO armed group UKNA declared objection to the proposed mega public meeting on July 19 and expressed suspicion that the proposed meeting has hidden agenda for building rapport with adversaries, which would only act as deterrents to browbeat their political aspirations.

Accordingly, the UKNA, working for the whole community, has declared objection to the proposed mega meeting.

It warned that any Kuki-Zo descendants be it CSO leaders or individuals should desist from talking about ceasefire.

On the other-hand, Kuki National Organisation (KNO) reaffirmed its commitment to public consultation: "Our movement is the people's movement" .

In a release, KNO announced its unwavering commitment to proceeding with the KZC's planned public consultation, emphasising that the ongoing efforts represent a people's movement driven by the collective aspirations of Kuki-Zo community.

Despite any prevailing circumstances, the consultation will go ahead as scheduled, it reaffirmed.

The public consultation shall serve as a crucial platform for open dialogue, ensuring that the voices, concerns, and recommendations of every member of the Kuki-Zo community are heard and integrated into the future direction of the movement.

This initiative underscores the council's dedication to transparency, inclusivity, and democratic principles, KNO maintained.

"We believe in the power of our people, and this consultation is a testament to that belief," the release said, adding that the movement is not just about a few leaders; it's about the collective will and determination of every Kuki-Zo individual.

Therefore, it is imperative that this public consultation proceeds as planned, allowing us to gatheressential insights and strengthen our resolve, it said.

KNO urged all community members to participate actively in the upcoming consultation.
