UNLF condoles demise of 'captain' Thangjing

Imphal, March 12 2024: The Pambei-led United National Liberation Front (UNLF) expressed deep condolences over the sudden demise of 'captain' Lourembam Thangjing alias Naobi of the outfit's armed wing, Manipur People's Army (MPA) .

According to a condolence note of the UNLF, captain Thangjing succumbed to an illness around 10.40 am Monday (March 11) after brief treatment in an Imphal hospital.

Extending revolutionary salute to the departed MPA cadre, the condolence note recounted that 'captain' Thangjing alias Naobi born on January 1, 1971 to Lourembam Merajao and Leikham of Kanto Sabal, Leimakhong was the sixth child of seven siblings.

The noted further said that Thangjing joined UNLF in 1999 and completed Basic Military Training (BMT) of MPA conducted from November 1999 to February 2000 (17th Batch) and was allotted MPA Service No 1132 .

After completing the training, Thangjing worked for the then MTF from the year 2000 to 2005 and shouldered his responsibility as MPA fighter in many battles against Indian forces and reactionaries.

Later, he was shifted to 242 Bn of MPA and worked for the battalion till February 2, 2006 and then at GHQ till January 2, 2008 and at 292 Bn of MPA till February 2, 2009 .

The UNLF note issued by its media coordinator Charairongba Thokchom also remembered 'captain' Thangjing shouldering responsibility of the party as staff of BPMA and as staff officer of H & FW department from 2020 till his last breath.

In recognition of his immense responsibility for the party and MPA, Thangjing was accorded ranks by GHQ and MAC.

On February 9, 2015, Thangjing was accorded 2nd Lieutenant from sergeant major and then to lieutenant on November 24, 2019 .

In the year 2021, he was accorded captain rank and recognised as party's cadre from February 9, 2021 .

Describing captain Thangjing as a sincere, taciturn but courageous person, the UNLP also said that Thangjing took responsibility of the party more important than anything else including personal health and had unwavering loyalty to 'motherland' and the party.

Sharing pain and grief of Thangjing's bereaved wife and young children, the Pambei-led UNLF also prayed for Thangjing's soul to rest in peace in the heavenly abode.
