Imphal, March 12 2024:
Kwatha Khunou village chief Laishram Sanjay has strongly decried the remark of chief minister N Biren, who reportedly claimed that the houses burned by Kuki militants on Sunday night, were abandoned ones.
Addressing the media at Manipur Press Club, here, on Tuesday, Sanjay said that burning of two houses including his by Kuki militants on Sunday night was condemnable.
However, it was unfortunate that the chief minister claimed that both were abandoned houses.
Despite its small size, the hamlet has been playing a significant role in safeguarding the border of the state, he said while urging the CM and all concerned to refrain from making such baseless statements, while adding that the villagers are simply taking temporary shelter at Kwatha Khunjao due to the present crisis.
Narrating the incident, Sanjay said that a resident of Kwatha called him over the phone to inform about the fire incident.
In the meantime, Molphei village chief also called him and said that there was a wild fire near a religious site.
After some minutes, the Molphei called him again and conveyed that he along with some youths have assessed the situation and found some unknown persons burning the houses and fleeing away on seeing them.
Expressing suspicion of what the Molphei village chief said, Sanjay pointed out that there are only two villages in the area - Molphei and Bolyang, both of which are Kuki villages.
Other than the two, there is no village of other communities in the area and they must be aware of the perpetrators as well as the incident.
Apart from burning the houses, all their belongings have been looted.
They want to return to their home and stay there but it will require round the clock security measure, Sanjay said, while urging the government to provide adequate security protection.
