Imphal, August 11 2025:
National highways in the state may reopen within a few days, MLA Sapam Kunjakeswor said on Monday, while expressing that the Government of India is working on a permanent solution to the state's unrest.
He urged people to give the authorities more time, assuring that peace will definitely return.
Kunjakeswor, who represents Patsoi assembly constituency, made the remarks while attending a programme for distributing aids and appliances to differently-abled persons under the ADIP scheme and to senior citizens under the RVY scheme.
The event, held at Tera Sapam Leirak Machin, was organised by Relief Centre for the Welfare of Differently Abled Persons (RCWDAP) in collaboration with the Composite Regional Centre (CRC), Imphal, ALIM-CO Guwahati, and PMDK Imphal.
Commending the Relief Centre's efforts, Kunjakeswor said that he has been associated with the organisation since before joining politics and would continue to support it physically, morally, and financially.
He promised to fulfil its request for 100 tin sheets soon.
"The ultimate goal of social workers is not to get votes.
Social work can be done even without winning elections," he remarked, adding that he would dedicate his post-political life to serving the differently-abled, athletes, and underprivileged students.
Highlighting Manipur's diverse heritage, Kunjakeswor said that each of the state's 35 indigenous communities have unique identities, cultures, and traditions.
"This land has its own kingship, language, and script.
It is impossible to divide the 35 communities, he said, describing the ongoing unrest as possibly a test from God to see if the communities could be divided.
"Disagreement and quarrel for a short while happens in every family.
This is human nature.
Therefore, we must work to bring our minds together," he stressed, expressing hope that ail communities will eventually live together with love and trust.
"The Centre is working with a long-term vision to prevent such unrest from recurring," he added.
The programme was presided over by CRCSRE Imphal director Naosekpam Khoibi, and attended by RCWDAP president P Gopendro, Human Rights Law Network assistant director advocate Th Premlata, and SAKSHAM national executive member H Jadumani Sharma as guests of honour.
A total of 300 differently-abled individuals and senior citizens received motorised tricycles, wheelchairs, walking sticks with seats, regular walking sticks, hearing aids, LS belts, knee braces, cervical collars, and auxiliary crutches at the event.
