Imphal, May 11 2025:
Nongpok Leingak Apunba Nupi Lup (NLANL) celebrated its 11th foundation day on Sunday at Sangeet Kala Sangam Hall, Khurai Lamlong Bazar, reaffirming its commitment to community service and social vigilance, particularly in the fight against drugs and alcohol.
Speaking at the event, AMKIL president Lourembam Nganbi lauded NLANL, a constituent body of AMKIL, for its active role in safeguarding the society.
She emphasised the critical role women continue to play in preserving cultural values and maintaining social order.
Even if the government legalises liquor, NLANL will continue to don the role as the community vigilantes, she said and sought public support in its endeavours.
Nganbi also underlined the importance of preserving the cultural identity of Manipur, warning against the chaos that can result from uncritical assimilation of foreign cultures.
She urged women to remain rooted in their traditions, calling them the primary torchbearers of cultural preservation.
Addressing the political concerns in the state amid the conflict, she criticised the Government of India's handling of the current crisis.
Recalling the 2001 uprising that followed the extension of the ceasefire agreement with the NSCN-IM without territorial limits, she accused the centre of waging a "proxy war" against the state and stressed the need for a united public stance to compel constitutional action from the Centre.
Nganbi also stressed the need to act as a society and put pressure on the Centre to address the situation under the Constitution.
NLANL secretary Nongthombam Radhamani highlighted the organisation's initiatives since its inception, reaffirming its dedication to social causes.
She echoed the concerns over the Centre's handling of the ongoing crisis and called for unity and better understanding among the people.
Expressing concern over restricted access for Meeteis to important religious sites due to the ongoing conflict, she demanded firm measures to ensure freedom of movement.
The foundation day was also attended by NLANL president Yumlembam Mema Leima, Nupi Samaj president Thokchom Ra-mani, AMKIL and Macha Leima advisor Khangembam Anandi, All Manipur Tammi-Chingmi Apunba Lup president Yambem Momon, NIMPAL president Thingbaijam Ibeyaima, Thoubal Ima president Sapam Bimola, ANUL Bishnupur president Lourembam Pramo, EECHAL president Tongbram Premita, and MACHA LEIMA president Wangkheimayum Amusana as presidium members.
