Imphal, September 03 2022:
Eastern Liangmai Chief & Chairman Association (ELCCA), Manipur has reaffirmed its stand that the Liangmai community in Kangpokpi and Noney districts would not join the ensuing delimitation process of constituencies of the Autonomous District Councils, Manipur.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here on Saturday, ELCAA president Ch Karambou asserted that Liangmai people in Senapati district are against any process for their bifurcation and inclusion in Kangpokpi and Noney districts.
Intense form of protest will be launched if the government ignores their demand, he cautioned.
While recalling that the Liangmai villages were included to Senapati district from Tamenglong district, he continued that Liangmai villages in Senapati district should not put under different administration yet again as is being proposed for inclusion in Kangpokpi and Noney districts.
If Liangmai community villages are to be rearranged, authorities should ensure their return to Tamenglong, he added.
The president contended that it has been demanding the state government not to include Liangmai villages in Kangpokpi and Noney districts as such a move is against the wishes of the Liangmai community.
"It may be mentioned that the Liangmai community in Kangpokpi and Noney districts were forced to live as minority in its own ancestral land due to vested interest of some politicians.
As such, we were pushed to comer and forced to live as economically marginalised sections and deprived of its democratic political right," he maintained and reiterated the demand that that the government place the Liangmai community residing in Kangpokpi and Noney districts under one administrative umbrella in order to ensure equality and justice in the democratic process.
It is our appeal to chief minister N Biren to address our grievances and consider the aforesaid legitimate demand at the earliest.
Failing which the Liangmai body will intensify its democratic agitation in the state, the president said.
The press conference was also attended by 38 village chiefs/chairmen of Liangmai community and other representatives.
