AR DG, retired army officer team meet Governor

Assam Rifles director general lieutenant general Pradeep Chandran Nair called on Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan on Thursday and briefed her about the security measures taken up by the Assam Rifles to control violence in Manipur.
During the meeting Lt Gen Nair elaborated on the deployment of Assam Rifles in the vulnerable areas of both valley and hills districts, particularly in areas affected by the ethnic violence.
On her part, the Governor informed the DG about the appeal she had made to the people of Manipur, especially to the womenfolk to extend their fullest cooperation to the security personnel while discharging their responsibilities to restore peace and normalcy in the state.
She also discussed with him the common programme of actions already taken up/proposes to be taken up to bring peace.
On the other hand, lieutenant general (retired) K Himalay Singh along with retired colonels namely Robindro Sharma, T Hemo Singh and N Nabakishore Singh met the Governor on Thursday and apprised her about the present prevailing situation in the state.
K Himalay and his team handed over a cheque of Rs 2.5 lakhs to the Governor for those ex-ser-vicemen who had died and lost their houses and properties in the ethnic clash.
The team also submitted a detailed report of ex-servicemen affected by the on-going ethnic clash and requested the Governor for taking up necessary steps to bring the displaced ex-servicemen back to their respective places and also for bringing peace and normalcy at the earliest.
The Governor informed the team that she will try to reach out to the families of ex-servicemen who have lost their loved ones and properties in the ethnic clash and also asked them to talk to the people for extending maximum cooperation to the security forces to contain violence in the state.
