12 Ukhrul villages surveyed for construction of pre-fabricated houses

Ukhrul District Administration has completed a site survey for construction of pre-fabricated houses as interim rehabilitation centres in twelve villages of Ukhrul.
According to a credible source, over 2887 internally displaced persons are currently seeking shelter in 12 villages of Ukhrul district in both LM Block and Ukhrul Block after a spate of violence hit Manipur.
Ukhrul DC Zuringla Kengoo along with department officers including SP Ukhrul recently visited and inspected the village for setting up and preparation of semi-permanent relief camps for the displaced persons due to large-scale violence in the State since May 3 and also distributed relief materials to the displaced inmates.
According to sources, in Ukhrul Block construction of the semi permanent camp would be carried out in three villages, namely Litan Sareikhong (765 IDPs), Mongkot Chepu (394 IDPs) and Shangkai (43 IDPs) to accommodate 1202 inmates."While in LM Block, over 1685 IDPs will be set up in pre-fabricated houses at Lamlai Chingphai (144 IDPs), Mollen Kamsei (157 IDPs), Molnom (102 IDPs), Moulsohoi (11 IDPs), Mullam (98 IDPs), Pashong (275 IDPs), Shongphel (108 IDPs), Yaolen (655 IDPs) and Zalengbung (135 IDPs) .
The District Administration, Ukhrul distributed relief materials in all the twelve villages.
The relief materials include 100 quintals of rice, lentils, salt, potato, onion etc."Site identification and measurement of the area for construction of relief camps were completed while the process of material procurement was underway, as informed by SDO Ukhrul.
The arrangement is expected to house as many as 2887 internally displaced families in Ukhrul district.
It might be mentioned that the inmates are presently camped in school, community hall and other public places.
Semi permanent houses will be made for IDPs to provide them with shelter until the volatile situation subsides and normalcy is returned to the State.
According to reliable sources, among the other villages of Ukhrul district Ngainga, Phalee, Talui have received a one time relief package from the District Administration.
