Imphal, July 06 2023:
The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has expressed strong disapproval of BJP's initiative to discuss poll strategies of the Northeastern States including Manipur at a time when Manipur is literally burning.
Speaking to media persons at Congress Bhavan this afternoon, MPCC president K Meghachandra said that an election meeting of BJP Eastern Zone was held today at Guwahati with a view to the 2024 Lok Sabha election, and the meeting made a scathing attack against Congress.
Instead of expressing any concern over the protracted crisis besieging the State, BJP leader Nalin Kohli had the audacity to criticise Rahul Gandhi's recent visit to the trouble-torn State, he said.
It is rather unfortunate that the BJP is more concerned with elections and winning elections as indicated by their haste to chalk out poll strategies when Manipur is literally burning.
People have been saying that the extensive and protracted violence besieging Manipur is a game plan of BJP and it is becoming true as the days go by, Meghachandra said.
Rahul Gandhi visited Manipur recently to collect a first hand account of the violence and its impacts on the common people but he did not speak a single word of politics during his visit, the MPCC president said.
If both the Central Government and the State Government are committed enough, the violent crisis can be resolved.
With the Government not working sincerely to bring a solution, the State has paralysed in all aspects.
The death toll has been mounting every single day and an atmosphere of insecurity has enveloped every section of the society, he said.
BJP leaders of both the Centre and the State, instead of working sincerely to bring a solution to the violent crisis, made unwarranted criticisms against Rahul Gandhi's peace mission at their eastern zone meeting held at Guwahati, the MPCC president decried.
He then pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not yet bothered to speak a single word about the two-months old violent crisis.
