UKAL condemns torchiing of religious site

Imphal, July 06 2023:
Well-armed Kuki militants desecrated and burned down Kongba Maru Laiphamlen, a sacred site of Meeteis located near Ishingth-enbi in Imphal East district, on Thursday around 1 pm.
Local sources said that after receiving information, a team of Imphal East district police and Garhwal Rifles rushed to the spot, and flushed out the Kuki militants by using arms and mortar shells.
Several structures of the sacred religious site including the main structure of the temple and office of the management committee were found vandalised, desecrated and burned by the Kuki militants when the security forces reached the site.
Meanwhile, condemning in the strongest tern, 1 the desecration and burning of the sacred religious site, Umanglai Kanba Lup (UKAL) resident Maniton said that Kuki militants have been indulging in desecrating Sacred religious sites of Meeteis, which are mostly in the hills since the violence began on May 3.They have been erasing traces of Meetei s footprints in the religious sites and the des-ecration of Kongba Maru Laiphamlen is the latest in such acts, he said.
He also decried the: silence of the government against such activities of the Kuki militants.
He further said that such vandalism, dese-cration and burning will not deter the Meeteis.
Instead, the community will rebuild the struc-tures in a grandeur scale than before, he said.
