Bishnupur, July 06 2023:
Toubul Village Monitoring Committee, VMC (MGNREGA) secretary Th Bira has stated that had the central and state governments been sincere they could have ended the on-going crisis within a day.
Addressing a press meet at Toubul on Thursday, Th Bira claimed that the prevailing restive situation in the state is due to Kuki militants attacking Meetei villages and torching of their houses consequently forcing people to flee and seek refuge in relief camps.
Further contending that Chin-Kuki immigrants from Myanmar are the main culprits for the violence in pursuance of their nefarious agenda ter destroy the age old bond between the various communities in the state, he opined that lack of seriousness on the part of both the central and state governments to resolve the issue testifies step-motherly treatment of Manipur and its people.
Bira also suggested that the 50 non-Kuki MLAs of Manipur part ways from their respective national parties and form a regional party to govern the state.
He further praised the panchayat and zilla pari-shad representatives who held a protest at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi demanding increase in the number of beneficiaries of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yoja-na (PMAY)-Housing for All schemes.
Social worker Khuman-them Dharjit Singh, who also attended the press con ference, lamented that the national media have been presenting biased reports and projecting Meetei in poor light.
