Imphal, May 22 2025:
Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader O Ibobi has stated that the central government and the Governor of Manipur should take responsibility for the Gwaltabi incident wherein central security forces harassed a media team travelling to Ukhrul to cover the Shirui Lily Festival and directed them to conceal "Manipur" on the windshield of a Manipur State Transport (MST) bus.
Speaking to newspersons on the sidelines of the 34th death anniversary of Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, organised by Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) at Congress Bhawan, here, on Wednesday, Ibobi condemned the incident, while claiming that the BJP government, which ruled the state for seven years, is a completely failed government.
He continued that the state is currently under the President's Rule.
If one cannot use the word "Manipur" in one's own state, it simply means the failure of the central government, the former state BJP government and the President's Rule administration, he remarked, adding that this is irresponsible on the part of the government.
The Mahar Regiment is a central force and as such, is under the central government.
If the forces did so with the permission of the central government, then both the central government and the Governor need to take the responsibility in the matter.
It is unacceptable to speak about not compromising the integrity of Manipur but acting Contradictory to the same, he remarked.
Regarding the observance, Ibobi said that the death anniversary of former PM Rajiv Gandhi is also observed as anti-terrorism day.
He then went on to recount the life and death of the former prime minister, while adding that the PM's assassination was the biggest loss to the country.
The observance was also attended by MPCC president K Meghachandra, CWC member Gaikhangam and other party leaders.
