Suspect in Merangir death case arrested

Imphal, July 18 2024:
Imphal West district police on Wednesday arrested a person suspected to be involved in the killing of Merangir.
The accused identified as Khangembam Sanaton alias Sanatomba Singh (53) s/o late Amumacha of Langjing Taning, was produced before the JMIC Imphal West-1 on Wednesday and remand ed in police custody for eight days.
Lamsang police station had registered a case in connection with the death of Merangir Chiru.
Meanwhile, the body of Merangir of Kangchup Chiru has been handed over to the family at RIMS mortuary, followed by conduct of the last rites at his birthplace on Thursday.
Representatives of UNC, Rongmei Naga People's Organisation (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland), ANSAM, Federation of Haomee, Naga Women's Union, Chiru Naga Women Union, Chiru Students' Union and villagers of Ireng, Makhan, Oktan, Haochong, Jeirong, Pungmun and Khonsakhun were present at the time of claiming the body at RIMS mortuary.
They also shared the grief and sorrow of the bereaved family.
