Innovators trained on solving real-life issues

A three-day State-Level Training Workshop & Innovators' Meet organised by Manipur Science & Technology Council (MASTEC), Imphal, in collaboration with National Innovation Foundation (NIF), an autonomous organisation under Department of Science & Technology, commenced at MASTEC Complex, Takyelpat, on Wednesday.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Science & Technology secretary Kengoo Zuringla reflected on India's ambition to become a self-sufficient and developed nation through economic growth, sustainable development and social equality.
"This goal can be achieved only through innovation," she noted, explaining that innovation represents not just high-tech advancements but also creative solutions that address the real life challenges faced by people.
She then called for grassroots innovators in the state to play a vital role in driving long-term solutions through technological progress and creativity.
Many local issues are being addressed through the resourceful and practical methods of these innovators, she hinted.
Highlighting Manipur's rich heritage of indigenous knowledge, culture, tradition and biodiversity, Zuringla said that these elements greatly contribute to innovation.
She also expressed gratitude to NIF for collaborating with MASTEC to support and empower innovators in the state.
In his address, NIF-India director Dr Arvind C Ranade, said that India having a population of 1.4 billion faces unique challenges due to its geographical and climatic diversity, with 7-8 coastal regions, various tropical zones and multiple weather patterns occurring simultaneously across the country.
"It was this very attempt to address such diverse issues and challenges that has made the nation inherently innovative," he noted, while acknowledging NIF's efforts in according priority to individuals working in the unorganised sectors.
By working closely with the people, the foundation has collected over 2.5 lakh ideas and innovations, he explained, adding that the NIF operates across various sectors, including engineering, human health, veterinary science and agriculture.
Participated by 70 farmers and 24 innovators, the event was also attended by NIF India scientist Dr Vivek Kumar and MASTEC director Dr Kh Rakesh.
