UG cadres held; arms, stolen vehicles recovered

Imphal, May 07 2025:
Security forces continued operations against underground (UG) groups, resulting in multiple arrests and recovery of arms, ammunition and stolen vehicles, according to a statement issued by Manipur Police Control Room.
On Tuesday, two cadres of the Socialist Revolutionary Party (SOREPA) identified as Yumkhaibam Nanao alias Parihan (27) of Andro Khuman Leikai and Changakham Norenkumar Singh of Andro Sanapat were apprehended from Andro Khuman Hill, With two mobile phones recovered from their possession.

In another operation the same day, police arrested a UG member from Khongman Khangembam Leikai Zone-V under Irilbung police station identified as Khangembam Joyson Meitei alias Loyumba alias Tondonba (28) of Khongman Khangembam Zone-V.According to the police, he was involved in extorting money from educational institutions in Imphal area.
A two-wheeler and a mobile phone were seized from him.
Another active member of the proscribed Revolutionary People's Front/People's Liberation Army (RPF/PLA) identified as Laishram Basanta Singh alias Ratan alias Ithoi (53) of Wangkhem Mayai Leikai was arrested from Yairipok Bazar.
One mobile phone and two SIM cards were recovered from his possession.
On May 5, a cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Party (People's War Group), identified as Elangbam Jogen Singh alias Sanathoi (43) of Hiyanglam Mayai Leikai, was arrested from Wabagai Lamkhai Bazar.
Two SIM cards, a mobile phone and an Aadhaar card were recovered from him.
In a separate operation, security forces recovered cache of arms and ammunition from Wangjing Tekcham area under Thoubal police station on Tuesday.
The recoveries include one .303 rifle, one 9mm pistol, one 36 HE hand grenade, nine rounds of .303, three tear smoke shells soft nose (LR), one CS smoke shell, one LR tear smoke shell, one 38mm anti-riot cartridge, and two each Baofeng and Kenwood walkie-talkie sets.
Additionally , during a special drive conducted on May 5, Manipur Police recovered 16 stolen vehicles and removed tinted sheets from 69 vehicles.
Traffic police also issued e-challans amounting to Rs 1.74 crore for various traffic violations, from January to April this year, added the control room release.
