Makaam bike rally spreads message of peace, unity

Noney, November 30 2024: The Makaam Riders Club (MRC), under the aegis of the Makaam Youth Organization (MYO), organised a commemorative ride on Saturday to Puiluanh/Kambiron village in Nungba Sub-Division, Noney district - the birthplace and resting place of Makaam's revered hero and freedom fighter, Haipou Jadonang.

Themed "Riding for Peace and Unity: One Mile at a Time," the bike rally aimed to promote a message of peace and harmony across the region.

MRC riders, from across Makaam's ancestral land (the land of Inpui and Zeme), paid their respects to Haipou Jadonang upon reaching the destination.

As part of the tribute, they conducted a cleanliness drive around the tomb of the freedom fighter.

The riders reaffirmed their commitment to upholding Haipou Jadonang's enduring legacy and his call for peace and unity.

This pledge was symbolically represented by the lighting of a solidarity flame.

Meanwhile, MYO expressed profound sorrow over the ongoing conflict in Manipur, once a beacon of peace and harmony.

MYO extended its deepest condolences to those who have lost their lives and conveyed solidarity with the affected families.

The organisation underscored the grave impact of the conflict, which has disrupted the state's progress and risks causing a generational setback, hindering development for years to come.

MYO pointed out that the violence, fuelled by divisiveness and hatred, not only inflicts suffering on individuals, families, and communities but also threatens the very fabric of Manipur's harmony and stability.

It then appealed to both warring communities to renounce violence, recognising that violence perpetuates a cycle of pain and deepens wounds across generations.

While acknowledging the profound anguish and height -ened emotions in the current climate, MYO urged all stakeholders to prioritise calmness and reconciliation for the sake of the future, particularly for the well-being of the next generation.

The organisation reiterated its call for both communities to embark on a path of dialogue and work toward alasting, peaceful resolution.
