Imphal, May 18 2026:
The Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) has demanded that private schools immediately stop treating students as "commodities" and cease charging exorbitant fees for documents.
In a statement, KSA alleged that some private schools are withholding admit cards, marksheets, transfer certificates and provisional certificates, demanding unreasonable payments beyond Board and Council fees.
Students and parents who cannot pay are denied documents, while others face heavy fines for collecting them late, causing distress, it claimed.
KSA said the practice persists despite the State's difficult situation and urged schools to return money collected without basis and release all documents without delay.
It warned that schools would be held responsible for any consequences if demands are not met.
The student body also appealed to Education (S) and the Department of Higher and Technical Education to direct schools and colleges to reserve seats for students appearing in HSLC and Higher Secondary compartmental and improvement exams, so they can continue their studies.
