Imphal, June 06 2026:
Maintaining the momentum of its multi-district environmental campaign, Assam Rifles carried its World Environment Day celebrations into a second consecutive day of ecological and community outreach initiatives across Manipur, aligning with the United Nations Environment Programme's global call for action.
On June 6, a comprehensive tree plantation drive was executed at Komlakhong Boating Point in Imphal West district in close coordination with the Manipur Forest Department and local residents.
As per a release issued by HQ IGAR(South), the event witnessed joint participation from 40 Assam Rifles personnel, forest officials, 30 local group members, and 20 students from Phoubakchao High School.
A total of 250 indigenous and fruit-bearing saplings, including Jamun, Hinchak, Mango, Gulmohar, Jackfruit and Sheesham, were planted.
Under expert guidance from forest officials, participants received training in scientific soil preparation and long-term sapling maintenance, followed by an interactive session on biodiversity conservation and climate change mitigation.
Simultaneously, the force expanded its green footprint at Nambol in Bishnupur district by organising a dedicated community outreach and environmental awareness programme.
The initiative brought together members of local clubs to deliberate on the prevailing security environment and address public concerns regarding access to health and education.
Blending security discussions with ecological stewardship, the programme concluded with an awareness session on sustainable resource management.
Working shoulder-to-shoulder, personnel and community members jointly planted 160 eco-friendly saplings of Jamun, Mango, Sheesham, Nilgiri and Gulmohar within the base premises.
The sustained drives enriched the regional landscape, deepened mutual trust, and established a lasting template for environmental preservation across the State.
