Rahul Gandhi consoles kids at relief camp

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi visited relief camps at Moirang in Bishnupur district on Friday and interacted with people displaced due to the ongoing violence.
Meetei residents of Churachandpur whose houses and properties have been reduced to ashes in the ongoing violence are currently taking shelter in relief camps at Moirang.
Narrating their ordeals to Rahul Gandhi sobbingly, some the inmates, particularly young children, said that they long to see their homes and go school.
Immediately after the chopper carrying Rahul Gandhi landed at Ngangkhal-awai helipad at 9.30am, large numbers of people lined up on the road leading to relief camps and raised slogans welcoming the Congress leader.
Even banners and placards welcoming Rahul Gandhi were put on display along the roadsides while people in large numbers followed him till the relief camp at Moirang Konjengbam Leikai community hall managed by Youth Development Organisation (YDO) as Rahul Gandhi marched to the camp.
Apart from inspecting condition of the relief camp, Rahul Gandhi also interacted with the inmates who recounted their ordeals to the Congress leader with tears in their eyes.
The inmates informed Rahul Gandhi that Kuki militants torched all their houses and properties and they are left with nothing.
Some inmates broke down on seeing the Congress leader and said how long they would stay at the relief camp is unpredictable as nothing is left for them.
Government is planning to construct temporary houses for displaced people at Kwakta area but we want to return to our native villages, they insisted and maintained that they could not survive with charities from public at relief camp.
One young girl sobbingly narrated her ordeal to Rahul Gandhi and said that Kuki militants torched her house but she wants to return home and see how the livestock are surviving.
The young girl also informed Rahul Gandhi that she wants to go school but does not know how to survive.
As the girl broke down after saying that they want peace, Rahul Gandhi consoled the young girl and assured to do the needful from his side for the suffering homeless people affected by the ongoing violence.
Rahul Gandhi also assured that he will do the needful for providing adequate compensation to the violence affected people.
After meeting the inmates, Rahul Gandhi visited INA Memorial Complex and paid floral tributes to Netaji Subash Chandra Bose.
Later, Rahul Gandhi inspected the relief camp opened at Moirang College and interacted with the residents.
