Imphal, April 25 2026:
The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has not taken any decision to end the ongoing mass protest, clarified its convenor YK Dhiren today, condemning attempts to derail its public movement against "Kuki narcoterrorists" amid heightened tension in the wake of the April 7 Tronglaobi attack that killed two children.
No decision has been taken to end the mass protest.
COCOMI's agitation will continue, Dhiren said, speaking to reporters at the committee's office at Lamphelpat in the afternoon after its public rally.
Even as the public rally today was joined by thousands of people from different parts of Imphal, there was an attempt to derail the public movement and malign the image of COCOMI, Dhiren said.
There are groups trying to play with the sentiments and emotions of the people with vested interest to derail the public movement.
People should stand united and firm to sustain the movement and not give in to such attempts, Dhiren said.
Today's massive protest rally was taken out to submit a 7-point memorandum to the Government, Dhiren said.
While people from different parts of Imphal were converging toward the Chief Minister's Bungalow, a massive number of protesters including COCOMI members were stopped by the police near Kangla, he said.
Three representatives were then allowed to proceed and submit the 7-point memorandum to the Chief Minister, he added.
While the three representatives were submitting the memorandum, COCOMI had made it very clear to the public that its agitation will continue until the Government responds and takes concrete actions on the 7-point memorandum, Dhiren said.
"The rally concluded and people dispersed after it was clearly stated that our agitation will continue until the Government makes its stand known to the public and takes concrete actions on the demands," Dhiren said.
However, shortly after the rally concluded, some groups of persons allegedly spread a "propaganda" that COCOMI members had "vanished," Dhiren said.
It was alleged that COCOMI representatives had vanished and the committee had taken a bribe, Dhiren said.
COCOMI strongly condemns such attempts to malign it and derail the public movement, Dhiren said.
"Our position announced in front of the Kangla before the rally was concluded still stands and it hasn't changed" .
There is no decision to relax agitation and meet the Government.
Even when COCOMI is invited, it will not accept the invitation and meet the Government, Dhiren said.
The propaganda that COCOMI's members had vanished and it had taken bribes was clearly aimed at subduing and diluting the public movement.
People should remain vigilant and not fall to such propaganda that seeks to play with their sentiments and emotions, he added.
Meanwhile, COCOMI is closely monitoring the development and trying to identify the persons who had spread the unfounded propaganda, he said.
