Imphal, March 24 2025:
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing the world of filmmaking, seamlessly integrating into every stage of the creative process.
From scriptwriting to editing, AI is streamlining pre-production, production, and post-production, unlocking unprecedented levels of efficiency, creativity, and innovation.
In this regard, Navanath Saharia, an Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IIIT Manipur, said that AI-powered tools like ScriptBook and ChatGPT are transforming scriptwriting and story development, bringing significant changes to the creative process.

He also said that AI tools are now being utilized to generate innovative ideas and dialogues, as well as predict audience engagement and box office performance.
Saying that AI-powered cameras can capture stunning, high-quality footage in any environment, while minimizing the need for human operators and errors, Navanath added that AI tools can also generate realistic computer-generated imagery (CGI) characters, environments and objects.
AI is also being utilized to enhance character animation, motion capture, and facial recognition, further expanding its role in the filmmaking process, he added.
Further stating that AI can analyse actor performance and suggest ideal casting, he maintained that there are also AI tools which can analyse video and audio fingerprints to detect piracy.
He however added that the increasing use of AI in filmmaking has raised concerns about job displacement, particularly in areas such as editing, visual effects, and animation.
Romi Meitei, a renowned Manipuri film-maker, said that the AI wave didn't start recently, but it's becoming increasingly powerful and advanced, transforming various industries, including filmmaking.
He also said that the growing influence of AI is unstoppable, and even more advanced AI tools will inevitably emerge in the future.
Saying that the machines and equipment used in the production of James Cameron's Avatar (2009) were remarkably advanced and intelligent for their time, Romi Meitei maintained that AI technology also played a pivotal role in the creation of Disney's 2019 remake of The Lion King.
However, Romi Meitei said that AI alone cannot guarantee a film's success as filmmaking is an art form that requires human creativity.
He emphasized that relying solely on AI for the creative process would undermine human decision-making.
