Imphal, February 23 2011:
Rising corruption and failure of ensuring good governance to the people are at the root cause for the defeat of Congress party in the recent by-election to Konthoujam Assembly Constituency although it had succeeded in the earlier three by-elections, vice president of State BJP unit Prof S Tiken has asserted.
Talking to mediapersons today, Prof Tiken said that defeat of the Congress party in the run up to the Assembly election is the public verdict on rising corruption and poor governance.
Reacting strongly to remarks made by spokesperson of SPF Government N Biren, who is reported to have ridiculed BJP over its jubilation over the success of Trinamool Congress in the by-election while it (BJP) itself has been in slumber all along, Prof Tiken countered that Government spokesperson should not forget that it is the public verdict that led to the defeat of Congress party.
Such irresponsible remarks of the Government spokesperson Biren despite knowing that the fact that Congress has been defeated and the attempt to mislead the public is nothing but the proverbial saying of 'Ekaikhangdagi Kang Kotpa', Prof Tiken said, while advising Biren to accept the public verdict if he really loves the people of Manipur.
Has the Government been able to ensure good governance, put a curb on rising corruption and ensure security and safety to the people ?, he asked, adding that the public are not fool and know very well the Ministers who have amassed wealth and properties and constructed palatial houses during their term all in the name of governance, and there is no need for evidences for that.
Truth always triumph has been shown by the recent by-election to Konthoujam Assembly Constituency and the result of the by-election is the indication that muscle and money power cannot always work, Prof Tiken asserted.
He went on to point out that necessary works for construction of the three markets of Khwairamband Bazar and the BT Road flyover were initiated during the time of NDA rule.
It is also during the time of NDA that Ministry of DoNER was set up and NLCPR introduced.
BJP is making efforts to raise the issue related to misuse of Rs 10 crores in connection with procurement of equipments under State Rural Health Mission by conducting the tender on the sly at Delhi instead of in Manipur, Prof Tiken disclosed.
Spokesperson of State BJP unit Ksh Brajamani, who was also present at the occasion, categorically stated that SPF Government spokesperson N Biren would not be able to conceal all the misdoings of the Government.
Biren should remember that it is the public who are wiser than the Ministers.
Congress party has suffered defeat in the by-election as a penalty for challenging the gurus, for it has send the teachers in the jail instead of listen to their demands, Brajamani added.
Media affairs secretary of the party L Basanta wondered how the work order for removal of Phumdis from Loktak lake has been awarded in favour of the Delhi based K-Pro Infra Works Private Ltd which was set up only in June 2009 while the required fund of Rs 224 crores had been sanctioned only in the financial year 2008-09 .
This itself spoke volume on how fair is the Government in its dealings,
he added.
