UNC likely to suspend blockade

Imphal/Senapati, September 10 2025:
Even as the State Government has sent a missive to the United Naga Council (UNC) for another round of talks on the ongoing economic blockade/trade embargo, reliable sources informed that the UNC is likely to suspend the ongoing "trade embargo" before the dialogue.
This is a later development given that there was no indication of the UNC lifting the blockade in the earlier hours of the day.
Notably, the UNC imposed an economic blockade/trade embargo on National Highways from September 8 midnight protesting the revision of Free Movement Regime and construction of border fence.
The Government invitation signed by Chief Secretary Dr Puneet Kumar Goel said that the Central Government had noted the concerns raised by the UNC and other stakeholders.
"Accordingly, the Central Government has been holding and will continue to hold dialogue with the UNC and other stakeholders for prior consultations before fencing works are taken up.
The next tripartite meeting with the UNC will be held on a mutually convenient date and venue.
In view of the above, it is requested that any form of agitation in this regard may be withdrawn in the larger public interest," the Govt invitation said.
Nonetheless, UNC leaders today held a meeting at Senapati on the economic blockade and the situation arising out of it.
The meeting, apart from making an assessment of the impacts of the economic blockade, deliberated on the Government's proposal to resolve the matter through talks.
The meeting held today, however, could not arrive at any concrete decision.
As such, the UNC leaders would hold another meeting at Senapati tomorrow, sources said.
On the other hand, a large number of loaded trucks have been stranded at Mao Gate, Maram-Peren Road and Jiribam.
The loaded trucks stran-ded at Jiribam include many oil tankers and LPG bullet tanks.
It can be noted here that, following the failure of the talk on the issues of Free Movement Regime (FMR) and border fencing between the United Naga Council (UNC) led Naga organisations and the representatives of the Government of India on August 26 in Delhi, the UNC has enforced "trade embargo in Naga areas" under its jurisdiction from the midnight of September 8, 2025, until further notification.
