Imphal, August 07 2025:
The Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM) has decried the alleged confinement of their team who are currently at Imphal under a stringent instruction from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
Speaking to media persons at Classic Hotel here today, TIM president M James Thadou said that their efforts to bring peace and normalcy in Manipur have been severely hampered because of the restrictions imposed upon them by the MHA .
"Our team is here to work collectively and overcome the restive situation prevailing in Manipur for over two years, and pave the way for peace and normalcy", James Thadou said.
As a part of these collective efforts, a joint and face to face meeting was held with leaders of several CSOs on August 6, 2025 with the primary agenda of bringing an understanding among the communities, he said.
"But TIM is puzzled by the restrictions being imposed by MHA on our team who are currently at Imphal.
We reached here amid threats from different quarters but we feel like we are confined and this confinement has undermined the spirit and purpose of our visit", the TIM president said.
He said that TIM is committed to making maximum contributions towards bringing peace and normalcy in Manipur.
"But we are being denied the opportunity to meet and talk with the people as we are confined here", he said.
Notably, a team of 16 TIM members led by its president held a joint meeting with representatives of several CSOs including AMUCO, COCOMI, FOCS, Arambai Tenggol and a number of student organisations on Wednesday.
"We reached Imphal amid strong threats and intimidation from different quarters.
It is not a joy-ride or pleasure trip.
"If the Central and the State Governments do not support us, we fear we will not be able to reach our destination", James Thadou said.
He said that they, nonetheless, felt elated and delighted at the warm welcome accorded to them by CSO leaders and members including mothers.
"We feel like we are coming home after a long gap of two years.
A deep sentiment enveloped us when we reached Imphal", he said.
Peace and normalcy can be restored definitely if there is such cooperation and understanding among the communities, the TIM president said.
To a query, James Thadou said that the meeting held yesterday achieved a significant milestone towards bringing an understanding between the communities although it did not adopt any decision.
It would be premature to divulge the details of the meeting, he added.
He said that plans are afoot to hold similar meetings after two/ three weeks.
"We believe such meeting meetings can be held at different places apart from Imphal as the talks progress", he said.
